About the Farmers' Market

Celebrating 23 years of bringing together farmers, community and Serramonte Center shoppers, the Daly City Farmers’ Market is the oldest farmers’ market in the CFMA market system. The 22 farmers who started with the market in 1991 continue today with great support of their loyal customers. A diverse selection of produce compliments the diversity of the community, with over 200 table feet of Asian vegetables, and a vast variety of Indian, French, German, Italian vegetables and bakeries. This hugely popular Thursday market recently spawned an additional market on Saturdays, also 9am to 1pm, year-round.

WHAT'S IN SEASON?

FOOD FROM THE FARMERS' MARKET TASTES SWEET, CRISP, AND FRESH!

Often fruits and vegetables were picked just hours before the farmers' market opens, and have traveled less than fruits and vegetables traveling through the conventional wholesale channel to the grocery stores. The fruit offered at farmers' markets is sweeter because it has higher sugar content because it has ripened on a tree instead of a truck/train or shelf. Talk to your favorite farmers about their harvest techniques, their favorite family recipes and their special heirloom seeds handed down through generations.

Meet the Daly City Farmers' Market

In loving memory

Pat O’Shea ‘Man of the Sea’

We are very sad to report that Patrick O’Shea passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Pat stopped aging 20 years ago, never looking older each time he came to market. Pat’s aging seemed to freeze in time. Our guess is he was as old as the sea, fresh as the mist and dependable as the tide. When the weather was rough and the swells were high, CFMA could count on Pat O’Shea’s Mission Fish to make it to market with all his catch.

As a veteran, Pat served the U.S. Army in Germany, learning how to defuse bombs and assemble weapons. We missed the chance to ask Pat if he ever used a harpoon. That would have made sense. Pat based his fishing operation out of Moss Landing and joined CFMA in 1996. He is considered one of our founding members and routinely signed up for new markets, even the small ones which took his pure faith in our market management and promotional abilities. Pat knew markets were grown week by week, vendor by vendor and his support has been vital to these markets. California Farmers’ Markets Association thanks him for his dedicated loyal service to the markets!

Pat was a genius at knowing his clientele and what they wanted. Whole fish were sent to Daly City, so fresh you thought you saw them wink at you. Pat was the first fisherman to set up fileting stations at the markets, cutting fish to order, any way you wanted it. Whole salmon showed up, he brought rock fish with eyes bulging out and live crabs angry as chickens pulled from their nests. If a market had a Pat O’Shea Mission Fish stall, that was a market’s sign of success.

Several years ago, Pat joined forces with his granddaughter Crystal and her husband Jack. Crystal and Jack will forge ahead, keeping Mission Fish steady and their customers happy. CFMA salutes Patrick O’ Shea and will miss him greatly.
