Los Altos, CA… Come celebrate “Kid’s Day” at the Downtown Los Altos Farmers’ Market sponsored by the Los Altos Village Association and the City of Los Altos. This special evening will include entertainment and activities geared for kids of all ages on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 4pm to 8pm.
Kid’s Day will feature, a puppet show by Randal Metz of the Storybook Puppet Theater of Fairyland in Oakland, CA, presenting “Jack and the Bean Stalk”. At age 10 Randal Metz won an audition to become a Fairyland Personality. While still in grade school he apprenticed with Lewis Mahlmann, the creator of Fairyland’s Storybook Puppet Theater. Later, he studied with TV puppeteer Lettie Shubert, Disneyland window designer Bob Baker, and Muppets head writer Jerry Juhl. As Fairyland’s artistic director, Randal designed sets, taught the Children’s Theater Program, created publicity, and managed staff. Today, Randal takes great pride in directing America’s longest-running puppet theater and bringing high standards of creative excellence to every production. To kids who think they might enjoy a career in puppetry, he says, “Stick to your dream and learn everything you can!” The puppet show will be from 5:00-6pm at State St. & 3rd St. in Los Altos.
While enjoying Kid’s Day, children are encouraged to participate in the comparative stone fruit tasting and find out what varieties they like best! The Kid’s Craft are will have a make-your-own hat station so children can make a special Farmers’ Market visor. The ever popular Piñata games will be back in the market with prizes for all.
Family farmers bring local produce and heirloom variety fruits and vegetables that they grow themselves. Specialties of the season include super sweet corn from Brentwood, strawberries from Watsonville, peaches, nectarines, pluots and apricots, organic and Asian vegetables, your grandfather’s heirloom variety tomatoes, baked breads, eggs, ocean fresh fish, grass fed beef, and more direct from California certified growers and producers.
The Downtown Los Altos Certified Farmers’ Market is hosted by the Los Altos Village Association and the city of Los Altos. The certified farmers’ market is a location approved by the County Agricultural Commissioner where farmers offer for sale only those fruits and vegetables they grow themselves.
